Abstract

Social media platforms have become integral to daily communication, necessitating robust security mechanisms to protect user data. This paper explores the key protocols used to ensure secure messaging within these platforms: MTProto, Signal Protocol, Open Secure Telephony Network (OSTN), AES-GCM, and Proteus. In this paper it analyses their approaches to key management, key exchange mechanisms, authentication and integrity verification, key verification mechanisms, and transparency and open-source contributions.
