Abstract

Abstract: In order to reduce the carbon emission and limit the greenhouse gas effect, various countries are moving power generation through renewable energy sources and simultaneously replacing the conventional transportation system to hybrid electric vehicle transportation. Hence looking at the importance of efficient charging for electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). This research work has been carried out to emphasize the potential stress on the traditional power grid due to increased demand, leading to higher costs. To address these issues, the integration of local, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind, into the grid has been proposed. However, the intermittent nature of PV power generation necessitates the use of battery storage systems for grid stability. This paper introduces a hybrid charging station concept powered by solar panels and wind, connected to the grid, designed to be efficient and safe for various EV scenarios. Further, the paper outlines the implementation of on-site PV power generation to meet project needs, utilizing Battery Storage Systems (BSS) for load variation and grid relief. The incorporation of interleaved buck-boost converters in BSS enhances power conversion efficiency. The paper further describes a battery charging model for solar PV systems, introducing a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) mechanism through a buck-boost converter for optimal efficiency. The novel hybrid cat-mouse and honey badger algorithm models are proposed for MPPT, resulting in higher efficiency and steady performance throughout the battery charging process. Simulation results demonstrate a 99.99% efficiency using this hybrid algorithm, ensuring effective battery charging without loss of efficiency.
