Abstract

Jammu and Kashmir's political structure has changed significantly since 2002. The political roots of the coalition era have grown deeper. In 2002, the PDP and the Congress formed a coalition government to rule the former state. This coalition government has enacted a number of development programmes, one of which being the industrial policy, which was enacted in 2004. Food processing, particularly agro-based industries, was one of the policy's primary thrust areas. Similarly, an attempt has been made in the article to analyse the elements that influenced the design of industry policy. In particular, the article examines the Baramulla district's agro-based economy in terms of reducing regional disparities/imbalances that exist between two regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The paper has been divided into three broad categories; one; introduction of the Jammu and Kashmir, Second; literature review, Third; Factors Responsible for formulation of Industry Policy, Fourth; Economic and Industrial Profile of Baramulla District, and Fifth; Ago-based Industry in Baramulla, and Sixth; Conclusion. The research paper claims that the Kashmir region has been mostly ignored in terms of industrial growth, but the Jammu region has received special attention both before and after the PDP-Congress coalition government (2002-2008).
