EXPLORING WOMEN’S ATTITUDES TOWARDS RAPE VICTIMS:A PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS
Abstract
The word ‘rape’ consists of only three sounds and four letters. Easy to remember, easy to write and easy to speak. On the other hand, look at the irony how these small words like ‘rape’ changes the whole scenario for the person who has/had been through this violence. Hence, it shows that size and quantity does not matter but what matters is the hidden meaning inside that concept. So, everyday we come across with the same news with the same agenda of rape through different channels. Moreover, two things remain common in everyday’s air and they are female and rape. It seems that both the words go hand by hand in order to make society believe that patriarchy is still in power. Therefore, a small study has been done by applying the methodology of interview where women participants are to be taken care of. Furthermore, the research shows a) how thought process plays a vital role in order to extract hidden meanings about rape through language in society; b) the impact of social structure on individual’s identity. and; c) the style of words (language) reflects the power of a person.
